Living as Christi Taught Us - Busy!

On our way to the fabulous "Mazza Collection" (an incredible children’s book museum) on Sunday afternoon we stopped at the cemetery. It was the first time that Christi’s grave had not been covered with snow for a long time. It was the first time we were able to actually see the beautiful grave blanket that was left for Christi. (Christine is even spelled out in white lettering on the long red ribbon.) It is amazing! Some sweet angel on earth actually created a frame and then carefully attached the greenery and many ornaments. It’s precious; the photo doesn’t do it justice. The theme of Christi’s journey continues, “God’s people are good!”

At the museum we met up with our friends. While so nice to see Sarah and Shayla create art projects and listen to storytelling together, I still couldn’t help but think how much Christi would have enjoyed the enriching experience of art and literature with one of her very best friends as well.

Sunday night found us meeting with “The Proper Party” ladies. Wow! I can’t even being to explain the fabulous “Tea Party” they are planning for May 12th at 11:00 AM. (This would have been Christi's tenth birthday.) The Christi's Tea Party Committee has grandiose ideas and we believe it’ll prove to be a great celebration. Shayla and “Alice and Wonderland” will host the tea party with other characters in costume too. We hope this will be a nice fundraiser for the Christi Thomas Memorial Fund while providing mothers, daughters, granddaughters and anyone interested in spending time together- enjoying tea and sandwiches, entertainment and a chance to take home some great prizes. Our thanks to “The Proper Party” event planners and wedding consultants who are donating their services for this event! I’ll update with more specifics in a few weeks!

After a late evening, we arrived home from ice skating with Jennifer thinking that Christi certainly taught us how to live! Sunday was packed with books, art, friends and laughter exactly the way Christi liked to spend her days - busy! What a blessing she was!

SHAYLA FUNNY: After visiting with my Grandma Falter on Saturday, we went to a wonderful B&N bookstore. (Of course that brought tears to both Shayne and I as that store on the campus of UPenn, always on our walk from CHOP to the Ronald House, came to be a "staple" in Christi's Philadelphia life. Shayne said, "How can a bookstore make me cry three times?" I don't know, but somehow something makes us cry every day. Perhaps it's because we loved her so much we now miss her so much.) We had dinner at a restaurant where Shayla and Shayne sat across from me in a booth. At one point, Shayla was swinging her little legs and bumped mine so I just moved mine over. She looked up from her word search and said, "Did I kick you? I'm sorry. My feet are just curious." Curious feet! Gotta love her!

Out of all of the pictures we snapped, this is the only picture "orbs" are in. (Right on my forehead! The second smaller one is on the corner of Shayla's glasses - pretty amazing!) I tell myself it's Christi letting me know she's with us (and with Ms. Frizzle - that crazy Magic School Bus science teacher she loved so much) as we shared countless books, art projects and museums together over nine glorious years, 4 months and 7 days!

On a picture that was taken on your Dec 17th post there is a large "Orb" right above the three of you. I noticed it back then. You know Christi is with you at all times!

Ahh sounds like a perfect Sunday to me. I'm sorry too that your sweet Christi wasn't there to enjoy your time with you as well.

Her grave blanket is gorgeous, but oh how I wish there had been no reason for a grave blanket.

I know your hearts hurt daily and your arms, your laps and most especially your hearts long for Christi. She was and is so loved and treasured by you and Shayne and she knew that.

I love you all.

With love and prayers for alwayws,
Heather
